Peak Return Flow for Eid 2026: Police Chief Urges Commuters to Utilise WFA Facilities
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has urged the public to utilise the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy to reduce density during the peak return flow for Eid 2026. This was stated by the Police Chief when officially opening the national one-way route at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday afternoon (24/3/2026).
The Police Chief encouraged residents with work flexibility not to force their return to Jakarta on this exact day, given that vehicle volume is predicted to reach its peak.
“There is a WFA facility that can be used to ease the peak return flow today. The public can choose to return on 25, 26, or 27 March so that the density can be dispersed and the journey more comfortable,” said Listyo.
In addition to suggesting a delay in return schedules via WFA, Listyo asked the public to maintain their physical condition. He urged people to use the service posts and rest areas prepared by the government if they feel tired during the journey.
“Utilise all facilities, both in rest areas, service posts, and integrated posts. For those who feel tired, we hope they will rest and not force themselves for the sake of collective safety,” he emphasised.
The government has also prepared several contingency strategies, including the use of functional toll roads and dynamic traffic engineering, to ensure that millions of vehicles returning to Jakarta can be served smoothly and safely.
Accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Listyo released the return flow by implementing a one-way system from KM 414 GT Kalikangkung to KM 70 GT Cikampek Utama (Cikatama).
This traffic engineering step was taken to anticipate the massive movement of vehicles. Police data records that 2,380,401 vehicles have left Jakarta during the homecoming period and are now starting to move back towards the capital.
“This afternoon we are implementing the national one-way because we estimate the peak return flow will occur today. We are also dividing the flow to avoid build-up or bottlenecks when vehicles enter the direction to Jakarta,” explained Listyo. (H-4)
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo predicts that the peak return flow for Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah will begin on 24 March 2026.
The Police Chief stated this to anticipate potential accidents at tourist spots along with the surge in tourists during the national holiday moment.
To ensure journey safety, the Police Chief emphasised that technical vehicle checks (ramp checks) and health checks for bus crews are top priorities.
The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation urges homecomers to maximise Work From Anywhere (WFA) or working from anywhere to ease the peak return flow.
The government has officially implemented WFA for Eid 2026 starting today (16/3). According to him, this policy is expected to flatten the peak homecoming flow predicted to occur a few days before Eid.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi assessed that the implementation of flexible working arrangements or FWA will support the smooth running of Eid transportation.
