Peak Return Flow Begins to Feel, Public Urged to Utilise WFA
The Lebaran 2026 return flow is projected to increase starting 24 March. The government is reminding the public to plan their travel times more carefully, as vehicle density heading to Jabodetabek becomes increasingly evident since the beginning of the week.
PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol projects around 285,000 vehicles will return towards Jakarta via the Trans Java Toll Road sections. Indications of the increase appeared on 23 March, when vehicle volume from the east surged significantly.
Traffic data shows that in Shift 1 on 23 March 2026, 12,624 vehicles passed through the Cikampek Main Toll Gate towards Jakarta. This figure increased by nearly 50 percent compared to normal conditions of around 8,442 vehicles.
To address potential congestion, toll operators are preparing several anticipatory measures. As many as 22 toll gates at the Cikampek Main Toll Gate are operated specifically to serve the flow of vehicles to Jakarta. Additionally, extra access via GT Cikampek Main 8 is prepared to reduce build-ups.
Corporate Secretary & Legal JTT, Ria Marlinda Paallo, said these steps aim to keep traffic distribution even. “These measures are expected to distribute vehicle flow more evenly and minimise potential queues at the toll gates,” she stated, quoted on Tuesday (24/3).
On the other hand, Korlantas Polri is also preparing traffic engineering in the form of a one-way system from the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, to be implemented according to field conditions.
The government is also urging the public not to return all at once during the peak return flow. One suggested strategy is to utilise the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy to spread out travel.
Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan urged the public to reschedule their journeys. “We urge the public to take advantage of the WFA time provided so they can return on 25, 26, or 27 March,” he said.
In addition to timing arrangements, road users are asked to be wise when using rest areas. Rest durations are hoped not to be too long so they can alternate with other users.
“We also remind the public to make the best use of rest areas. Maximise the 30-minute time so it can alternate with others or maximise rest spots that are also outside the toll road,” Aan added.
PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) is anticipating the vehicle surge during the Lebaran 2026 return flow by implementing toll fee discounts of up to 30 percent.
The number represents the accumulation of vehicles exiting through four Main Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Cikupa (west direction), GT Ciawi (south direction), and GT Cikampek Main.
