REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The National Police Chief, General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, confirmed that the peak of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 AD return traffic has been passed. He stated this after directly inspecting the return traffic conditions at Bakauheni Port, South Lampung, on Saturday, together with the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi.

“Overall, we see that the peak return traffic has been passed, and there are still 13.07 percent left that we must face,” said Sigit.

Based on data from PT Jasa Marga (Persero), the number of vehicles exiting Jakarta during the Eid exodus period was recorded at 2,946,891 units, an increase of 20.49 percent compared to normal conditions and up 1.82 percent from Eid 2025.

Meanwhile, vehicles that have returned to Jakarta up to Saturday morning were recorded at 2,561,629 units, leaving about 385,262 vehicles or 13.07 percent yet to return.

In addition to private vehicles, passenger movements via various modes of transportation also experienced a significant increase compared to last year. Train passengers were recorded at 3,407,676 people, up 7.84 percent; air transport around 4.123 million passengers, up 6.27 percent; sea transport 4,751,186 passengers, up 13.89 percent; and land transport reaching 3,131,582 passengers, up 13.3 percent.

The most notable achievement in managing this year’s Eid exodus and return traffic is the reduction in traffic accident incidents and fatalities. Sigit mentioned that traffic accident incidents fell 7.8 percent compared to last year, while the number of deaths decreased by 112 people, from 377 souls in 2025 to 265 in 2026.

“So traffic accident incidents are now down 7.8 percent compared to last year, while for fatalities, namely those who died, it decreased by 112 people from 377 to 265,” said Listyo.

The Police Chief assessed that this achievement is inseparable from the synergy of apparatus, transport operators, and public compliance during the Eid transportation period. Specifically at Bakauheni Port, the return traffic conditions were said to remain in the green category thanks to the implementation of various effective traffic engineering schemes, including the delaying system, buffer zone, and ticket checking arrangements.

“With the engineering patterns that have been prepared, starting from the delaying system, buffer zone, to arrangements related to ticket checking, alhamdulillah, everything can be maintained so that the situation remains in a normal or green situation,” said Sigit.

He also mentioned that one of the service dimensions developed by the police this year is child-friendly services, as part of improving the overall quality of exodus services.
