Peak of Eid al-Adha holiday return rush sees 41,534 train passengers arrive in Jakarta
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi (Daop) 1 Jakarta recorded 41,534 passengers arriving at various stations in the Daop 1 Jakarta area on Monday, marking the peak of the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026 Gregorian holiday return rush.
“The peak of the return rush occurred today with arrivals reaching 41,534 passengers, while departures were recorded at 32,745,” said Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, in Jakarta on Monday.
Gambir Station had the highest arrivals with 15,028 passengers, followed by Pasar Senen Station with 14,066, Bekasi with 4,946, Jatinegara with 4,675, Cikarang with 1,404, Cikampek with 803, and Karawang with 612 passengers.
During the period from 25 May to 2 June 2026, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta operated 77 long-distance train services daily, comprising 68 regular trains, eight additional services from Gambir Station, and one from Pasar Senen Station.
Franoto said that out of a total capacity of 363,631 seats provided during the period, 286,543 tickets have been sold, representing a 79% occupancy rate.
Sales data showed executive class tickets sold 119,223 out of 178,524 seats, while commercial economy class sold 132,582 out of 152,422 seats.
Franoto noted popular destinations during the holiday included Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.
“These destinations consistently rank as customers’ top choices during long holidays. Trains remain the preferred mode of travel due to their safety, comfort, punctuality, and freedom from traffic congestion,” Franoto said.
On the other hand, the Pangrango local train service between Bogor and Sukabumi, operated by KAI Jakarta, offered 33,120 seats with bookings reaching 33,125 tickets.
Meanwhile, the Siliwangi service between Cipatat and Sukabumi provided 17,172 seats with total bookings of 12,369 tickets.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta assured that all train services during the holiday return rush prioritised safety as the main concern.
“Intensive checks of facilities and infrastructure are being conducted, supported by operational staff readiness on the ground to ensure train services remain reliable and safe,” Franoto added.
