Peak of Dry Season Predicted for August, Jakarta Government Ensures Safe Water Supply
The peak of the dry season is predicted to occur in August 2026. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has assured that the supply of clean water will remain safe during the dry season.
Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Chico Hakim, stated that the provincial government has been monitoring the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predictions regarding this year’s dry season. He said that several agencies, including the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), PAM Jaya, and other stakeholders, have been involved in anticipating drought conditions.
‘It is true, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has monitored the BMKG prediction regarding the peak of the dry season in August 2026. We have prepared anticipatory steps together with BPBD, PAM Jaya, and related stakeholders,’ Chico told reporters on Sunday (5/7/2026).
He confirmed that PAM Jaya’s raw water supply is being maintained. He noted that water distribution is also being strictly monitored. ‘The clean water supply through PAM Jaya is being maintained, with the majority of raw water coming from the Jatiluhur Reservoir (around 92%),’ he said. ‘Distribution is being strictly monitored and is ready to be supported by water tanker trucks in vulnerable areas,’ he added.
Furthermore, his team has also prepared weather modification measures. This will be implemented if the dry season lasts longer than expected. ‘We are ready for weather modification if the dry season is prolonged,’ he stated.
Chico also urged the public to conserve water usage. He assured that the clean water supply for the community is safe. ‘An appeal to residents to save water and maintain home pipe installations,’ he said. ‘We ensure that clean water stocks are safe for the community’s basic needs. We remain vigilant and ready to adjust measures according to field conditions,’ he added.
It is known that BMKG predicts the peak of the dry season in Indonesia will occur from July to September 2026. Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani, said the peak of the dry season will occur in 83 Seasonal Zones (ZOM) in July, then 369 ZOM in August, and 169 ZOM in September.
‘Areas predicted to experience the peak of the dry season in July 2026 include parts of Sumatra, small parts of Kalimantan and Java, southern East Nusa Tenggara, northern West Sulawesi, western Central Sulawesi, small parts of Maluku, southern Southwest Papua, central West Papua, and eastern Papua,’ Faisal said, as quoted from the official BMKG website.
In August 2026, the peak of the dry season will occur in central Sumatra, most of Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, parts of East Nusa Tenggara, most of Kalimantan, parts of Sulawesi, parts of Maluku and North Maluku, and most of Papua Island.
A total of 169 ZOM (25.41 percent of the land area) will enter the peak of the dry season in September 2026. These include the Bangka Belitung Islands, most of South Sumatra, Lampung, a small part of Java, most of East Nusa Tenggara, southern Kalimantan, most of Sulawesi, most of North Maluku, parts of Maluku, and the central highlands of Papua.
