Peak Mudik Flow at Kampung Rambutan Terminal Predicted at H-4 Eid
Jakarta — Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta estimates that the peak exodus flow for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri will occur approximately four days before Eid.
Kampung Rambutan Terminal Head Revi Zulkarnain stated that the prediction is based on monitoring of bus ticket bookings at various counters and online platforms.
“Our monitoring at the ticket counters shows that many online ticket bookings are scheduled for 16, 17, and 18 March 2026,” said Revi when met at Kampung Rambutan Terminal on Monday (9 March 2026).
He explained that during this period, the majority of passengers are travellers heading to distant destinations, both within Java and Sumatra.
Meanwhile, some travellers have been observed departing earlier, particularly those heading to Sumatra. They choose to travel home sooner to avoid traffic congestion and ticket price increases approaching Eid.
To anticipate the surge in passengers, the terminal is also preparing additional buses if needed.
“Yes, there will certainly be additional buses. We prioritise regular buses first. If regular buses are insufficient, we will provide backup buses,” said Revi.
Based on monitoring by Kompas.com on site, several passengers were observed waiting for buses in the terminal’s waiting area whilst carrying large suitcases and boxes.
The majority of passengers were dominated by travellers heading to Sumatra.
One such traveller is Ade (32), a resident from Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. He admitted choosing to travel home earlier to avoid traffic congestion and obtain tickets at normal prices.
“Yes, I want to travel home earlier to Payakumbuh because I want to avoid traffic and the ticket prices haven’t increased yet, since this is well before the peak mudik season,” said Ade when met at Kampung Rambutan Terminal on Monday.
“Yes, this is typical. I usually travel from afar because of my business. I stay about 10 days during Ramadan at most, or up to 15 days. The ticket prices are still normal at 875,000 Rupiah for a sleeper class,” he said.
