The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, stated that traffic conditions after the implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering for the homecoming flow are monitored and under control. Kakorlantas explained that the national one-way system is still in effect to anticipate the high volume of vehicles. “We are currently under the MBZ on the toll road, stating that the traffic conditions after we implemented the national one-way homecoming flow yesterday on the 18th, up to now, we are still enforcing the national one-way. As for the traffic conditions, especially on the toll road, we are also looking at the impact on the arterial roads. Up to now, it is quite controlled,” he said at the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on Thursday (19/3). Based on data on Thursday (19/3), the number of vehicles at the peak of the homecoming flow reached around 270,000 vehicles. This figure increased by about 4.26 percent compared to the same period last year, which recorded 258,000 vehicles. “Therefore, the traffic engineering mechanism from kilometre 36 has implemented contraflow of 1 lane up to km 47. After another increase, from km 47 we extended it to km 48, that’s 2 lanes. From km 48, we created another contraflow of 3 lanes up to km 70. Up to km 70, of course, towards Trans Java, alhamdulillah, it is smooth because we have implemented the national one-way. That is the updated condition today,” he said. Agus stated that the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed (MBZ) elevated toll road was temporarily closed for approximately one and a half hours to support the implementation of contraflow. After the engineering was completed, the lane was reopened, and traffic gradually flowed smoothly. “(The) MBZ was closed earlier for almost one and a half hours. Because the contraflow steps have been completed, of course, we opened it again, and alhamdulillah, now it is smooth. It is smooth now,” he added. The number of traffic accidents recorded a significant decrease of 2.8 percent. Meanwhile, the fatality rate of deaths dropped significantly by up to 40 percent compared to the previous year. “We convey that traffic accident incidents have also decreased by 2.8 percent as of today, but the fatality of victims who died has dropped by 40 percent. So it’s still good, hopefully until the end of Operation Ketupat, we can maintain it,” he said. “And we hope that fellow homecomers must be careful and patient. The peak flow has been passed, just a few percent left for us to secure,” he concluded.
