Peak Eid holiday travel rush predicted for Wednesday, 18 March 2026

Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has predicted that the peak of the Eid holiday exodus in 2026 will occur on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

“Based on ticket sales, the highest peak is on 18 March 2026, and the return traffic occurs on 23 March,” said Agustinus Budi H, Director of Air Transport at the Ministry of Transportation, during a joint online press conference with the Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

However, preliminary observations suggest that the peak Eid exodus in 2026 may have already occurred three days earlier, on Saturday (14 March 2026).

For the return journey during Eid 2026, the highest number of ticket sales occurs on 24 March 2026, with a total of 156,599 seats, representing 54.8 per cent of capacity.

“We will continue to monitor the return traffic. Will it align with our predictions? Will the date shift?,” said Agustinus.

Every flight route ticket has sold more than 50 per cent through Tuesday (17 March 2026).

The most popular international flight routes during the 2026 Eid holiday are Jakarta (CGK)–Singapore (SIN), Denpasar (DPS)–Singapore (SIN), and Jakarta (CGK)–Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

“International airlines have opened 1.1 million seats and as of now 761,000 seats have been sold, representing approximately 67.2 per cent,” he said.

The highest volume of international flight tickets during the 2026 Eid exodus is on 18 March 2026, whilst the return journey peaks on 23 March 2026.

Beyond the three main domestic routes mentioned, flights to Padang, Palembang, and Pekanbaru have also become popular destinations during the 2026 Eid holiday travel period.

The government has implemented stimulus measures, including tax reductions and flight fee adjustments, which are estimated to reduce ticket prices by 17–18 per cent. This aircraft ticket discount applies to economy class and bookings made from 10 February 2026 through 29 March 2026.
