Peak Eid holiday travel period in 2026 predicted for 18 March

Jakarta – The government estimates that the peak homecoming rush (mudik) for Eid 2026 will occur approximately two to three days before the holiday.

Yusuf Nugroho, Director of Road Transport Facilities and Safety at the Directorate General of Land Transportation within the Ministry of Transportation, stated that the peak travel period is projected for 18 March 2026.

According to Yusuf, the government is preparing various traffic engineering measures to address vehicle congestion on several major routes. This includes implementing multiple traffic management schemes on routes expected to experience heavy traffic.

“The government is working to implement traffic engineering management, including conducting coordinated group travel initiatives like this one, as well as other traffic engineering measures,” said Yusuf.

Based on a Ministry of Transportation survey, the volume of public movement during the 2026 Eid transport season is estimated to reach approximately 143.9 million people. This figure forms the basis for the government’s planning of various measures to manage the outbound and return traffic flows during this period.
