Peaceful settlement over Millennium row
JAKARTA (JP): Chinese motorcycle importer PT General Laju Machinery Indonesia (GLMI) and the sole agent of Japan's motorcycle maker Honda, PT Federal Motor (FM), have decided to seek an out-of-court settlement to their dispute.
The move became obvious on Wednesday as PT GLMI told the Central Jakarta District Court it had dropped its lawsuit against the City Police over the seizure of 52 Millennium brand motorcycles from its storehouses on Feb. 19.
The dispute between the two motorcycle distributors centers on the use of the name "Millennium" for Chinese motorcycles imported by PT GLMI, a brand name which PT FM claims is their registered brand.
A lawyer representing PT GLMI, Mansyur Dahlan, said his client had been distributing the motorcycles since 1994 and registered the brand name with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. (04)
