Peaceful be my country

Indonesia is now entering a significant stage in its history.
What has been done and what will be done will greatly affect the
future of the country. The problems that have arisen are diverse,
complicated and inter-related.
It is frequently heard or read in the electronic and print
media that political parties, in their campaigns, justify any
means to achieve their goals. To woo supporters, they present
themselves as simply something different from the New Order,
without really looking for a new format which will suit the
present condition of the country.
The prevailing condition is not conducive at all, so it is
deemed necessary to describe in general the targets to be
reached: (i) putting an end to the economic crisis and bringing
the reform drive to conclusion in an intensive and conceptual
manner; (ii) making the general election a success in terms of
security, transparency, honesty and fairness and (iii) ensuring
the general assembly of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)
will be held democratically and will come up with a new and
broader state policy, the election of a new president and a new
vice president.
These three items on the national agenda constitute a
significant momentum to respond to future challenges. Therefore,
the entire nation should take concerted actions to contribute to
a basic overhaul of the state order. Only then will we be able to
move forward with a new pattern of thought and deal with: (a)
foreign threats; (b) domestic disturbances such as pitting one
group against another in terms of ethnicity, religion and racial
origin; (c) attempts to cause national disintegration and dump
the state's ideology, the Constitution and national unity; and
(d) possible collapse of national development.
It must be understood that the ongoing crisis can be safely
overcome and the reform drive successfully brought to a
conclusion if all the people work hard together and mobilize all
their abilities and capacities for the good of their beloved
country, Indonesia.
