Peace Talks Between US and Iran Remain Dynamic, ESDM Secures Alternative Energy Sources
Jakarta – The Indonesian government is securing alternative energy sources amidst the ongoing peace negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
ESDM Spokesperson Dwi Anggia stated that reflecting on the lengthy negotiation process between Iran and the US, the government must continue to ensure the security of domestic energy sources, regardless of the conditions in the Middle East.
The statement was made in response to the Iran-US talks in Switzerland. Although the negotiations signal a positive move towards easing tensions in the Middle East and stabilising world oil prices, Anggia assessed that the relationship between Iran and the US remains dynamic.
She emphasised that Indonesia must anticipate various possibilities. “We must be optimistic, but anticipatory steps must also be taken,” Anggia said.
Regarding non-subsidised fuel prices, Anggia reiterated that they follow global oil prices. This is regulated in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 245.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2022 concerning the basic price formula for calculating the retail selling price of general types of petrol and diesel fuel distributed through public fuel filling stations and/or fishermen’s filling stations.
“So, if there is a fluctuation, whether it goes up or down, the price of non-subsidised fuel will also adjust accordingly. The fuel price formula uses the average market price over the last one month,” she explained.
It was previously reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeli Baghaei stated on Monday, 22 June 2026, that the talks between Iran and the US in Switzerland were not disrupted by President Donald Trump’s threats against Iran. The technical discussions, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, took place at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland on Sunday, 21 June 2026.
