President Prabowo Subianto received Indonesia’s fifth President and PDIP General Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri at the State Palace this afternoon. PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto revealed the content of the meeting.

“It is true that today, Thursday, 19 March 2026, a meeting took place between the two leaders, President Prabowo Subianto and Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. In the meeting, Ibu Megawati was accompanied by Mbak Puan Maharani,” Hasto said in his statement on Thursday (19/3/2026).

Hasto stated that Megawati and Prabowo met for two hours. One of the topics discussed was national and state issues as well as geopolitical matters, particularly those occurring in the Middle East.

“In the meeting between the two leaders, strategic matters regarding national and state issues, as well as various geopolitical problems, were discussed. Ibu Megawati’s extensive experience, especially as the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia who managed to resolve multidimensional crises, including various policy approaches that always emphasise the importance of a sense of priority and sense of urgency, was one of the topics discussed in the meeting,” Hasto explained.

Furthermore, Hasto mentioned that Prabowo and Megawati also discussed Indonesia’s position in active independent foreign policy. Megawati, according to Hasto, also explained her visits to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

“Likewise, regarding geopolitical issues, particularly Indonesia’s pioneering role in the Asia-Africa Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, and various important roles in building a new world order through active independent foreign policy. On this excellent occasion, Ibu Megawati also recounted her most recent visits to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” Hasto said.

Hasto also emphasised that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati was held for the interests of the people and the state. With the aim, he said, of collaboratively building Indonesia.

“PDI Perjuangan affirms that the Indonesian nation has a spirit of gotong royong, so meetings between national leaders as occurred with President Prabowo and Fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri, besides being in line with the nation’s culture, for mutual dialogue and consultation, are also intended for the interests of the people, nation, and state,” he stated.

Previously reported, President Prabowo received a visit from Megawati Soekarnoputri. Prabowo stated that this meeting continues the rapport among national leaders.

“On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the rapport among national leaders,” Prabowo said in a statement on his Instagram account, Thursday (19/3).

Prabowo shared several moments from the meeting with Megawati. From the photos uploaded, Prabowo, wearing a brown safari suit, is seen personally welcoming Megawati as she steps out of the car.

House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani accompanied Megawati. Megawati and Puan appeared to be wearing batik-patterned outfits in blue tones.

Deputy House Speaker and Gerindra Daily Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad was also seen welcoming Megawati.
