PDIP Unfazed by Jokowi's Ambitious Targets for PSI
PDIP DPP Chairman Ganjar Pranowo has responded to the high targets set by Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), for the PSI party. Ganjar stated that every political party has its own aspirations.
“We respect the rights of every citizen to associate and assemble. Each has their own ambitions,” Ganjar said when contacted on Monday (29/06/2026).
Jokowi is known to have begun regional visits to support PSI. During his first safari in Lampung, Jokowi stated that he has set high targets for PSI in the 2029 General Election.
Ganjar emphasised that PDIP does not wish to interfere in the internal affairs of other parties. “We do not meddle in the domestic affairs of others,” Ganjar remarked.
Separately, PDIP politician Guntur Romli also claimed not to be worried by Jokowi’s regional visits in support of PSI. Guntur is confident that PDIP’s vote share will not be eroded.
“PDI Perjuangan is not at all threatened by Jokowi’s political visits, which some observers have described as an early start to the 2029 campaign,” Guntur explained.
Guntur also noted that Jokowi is no longer a member of PDIP. He asserted that Jokowi does not provide any electoral advantage to his party.
“PDI Perjuangan has dismissed Jokowi. Jokowi does not bring electoral value to PDI Perjuangan,” Guntur clarified.
Jokowi’s Large Target for PSI in 2029
As previously reported, Jokowi provided direction to PSI cadres during the Regional Working Meeting of the PSI DPD in Bandar Lampung City. Jokowi mentioned that PSI’s target for the 2029 General Election is more than just securing seats in the Senayan (Parliament).
“I have come, and I do not wish to dwell on this for long. The party structure must be a living and working structure. If we truly implement this in the field, our target will not be a small one,” said Jokowi, as reported by detikSumbagsel on Saturday (27/06).
According to him, PSI’s primary goal is not merely to pass into the Senayan. However, he was reluctant to openly disclose the exact scale of the target, as it remains an internal party strategy.
“It is not just about entering the Senayan; entering the Senayan is, God willing, achievable. I want to enter the Senayan, but the figure we are targeting is not a small one. I do not need to mention it here, as this is internal, and there are many external parties present in this room. The target is a large target,” he stated.
