PDIP Thanks Prabowo, Says Economy Must Be 'Indonesianomics'
PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) has expressed gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for reviving the principle of Marhaenism as the philosophy behind the direction of Prabowonomics economic policy. While appreciating the acknowledgement, PDIP reminded that Marhaenism should not merely become a political term, but must be proven through concrete policies that favour ordinary people at the grassroots.
The thanks and remarks were delivered by PDIP Central Executive Board secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto during a press statement after the 81st anniversary ceremony of Indonesian independence at the PDIP Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Monday, 17 August 2026.
“Marhaenism is a principle, a theory of struggle, and a way for Indonesia to achieve independence. We express our thanks that President Prabowo is also championing it to affirm the character of power that sides with the many,” Hasto said.
Hasto explained that the essence of Marhaenism, coined by Bung Karno, emphasises the sovereignty of the poor, particularly farmers and small workers. Therefore, if Prabowonomics adopts the spirit of Marhaenism, its main indicator must be seen in the strengthening of the people’s means of production.
“When we shout ‘Marhaenism’, then how can farmers be sovereign, how can farmers obtain land as their means of production, obtain agricultural mechanisation to improve the quality of their products, as well as superior seeds produced by the nation’s own children. That is what must be elaborated,” Hasto stressed.
Furthermore, Hasto revealed that PDI Perjuangan actually prefers to promote the use of the term Indonesianomics. According to him, Indonesia’s economic concept was in fact firmly formulated by the nation’s founders through Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the Planned Universal National Development Pattern to realise the ideals of Trisakti.
He asserted that the success of a president’s economic vision is not determined by the choice of name or the naming of the concept at the outset, but by the people’s recognition of the results of his work.
“The idea of being just, prosperous and sovereign is an idea born of an independent Indonesia, not the idea of any individual. The strength lies in the people’s production, not in the oligarchy. So it is not about the name first, but about concrete work in changing structural problems to make the people prosperous, and only then will the people give recognition,” Hasto concluded.
