PDIP Reaffirms Zero Dowry Commitment at Asian Forum
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PDI Perjuangan’s young cadre, M. Syaiful Mujab, has reaffirmed the commitment of the ‘bull-logo’ party to implement a policy of not collecting any political dowries (Zero Mahar).
“This political commitment without dowries is crucial to providing equal opportunities for the younger generation and potential cadres from various backgrounds to emerge as leaders, without being held hostage by high transactional political costs,” Mujab stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
This was conveyed during the PDI Perceptual Sharing Experiences session at the 9th CALD Party Management Workshop international conference in Yogyakarta, Saturday (5/9).
The event opened with an in-depth presentation regarding the importance of political party institutionalisation as the primary fortress in maintaining democratic resilience in Southeast Asia.
Mujab also revealed the importance of political party consistency in transforming into structured, transparent, and meritocracy-based public institutions.
“A healthy democracy requires strong and tested party institutionalisation. PDI Perjuangan is committed to building an organisation that does not rely solely on figures, but on a tiered regeneration system through the Party School, the instilling of Trisakti ideology, and the values of Marhaenism,” he said.
Mujab highlighted the organisational governance renewal steps taken by PDI Perjuangan, where the party has become a pioneer in Indonesia in applying international management standardisation based on ISO certification, as well as psychometric assessments to select candidates for leadership and regional heads.
Additionally, the use of the ‘Media Pintar Perjuangan’ (MPP) digital dashboard was introduced as a means of transparency, education, and objective monitoring of cadre performance.
The PDI Perjuangan presentation session was part of a series of party management workshops organised by the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) in collaboration with PDI Perjuangan and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Asia.
Since the morning, the series of activities began with a Fireside Chat discussion titled ‘Setting the Context – Electoral and Political Party Trends in East and Southeast Asia’, moderated by the Regional Director of FNF Asia, Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff.
This opening session dissected election trends and party challenges in Asia alongside representatives from Singapore (SDP), Malaysia (Gerakan), Taiwan (DPP), Cambodia (CNRPA), and Vietnam (Viet Tan).
In the afternoon sessions, an academic from Chiang Mai University, Thailand, Assoc. Prof. Chanintorn Pensute, led an interactive ‘World Café on Party Institutionalisation’ session to formulate practical steps in overcoming obstacles to party institutionalisation in the Asian region.
The second day of workshops concluded with the formulation and reading of a joint consensus document titled “The Yogyakarta Commitment,” read by CALD Secretary General Francis Gerald “Blue” Abaya, as a collective commitment of Asian democratic parties to strengthen organisational governance and nurture civil liberties.
