Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission II and Chairman of the PDIP Central Executive Board, Deddy Sitorus, has proposed that the policy of one day of work from home (WFH) per week should not be applied on Fridays or Mondays. According to him, those two days could potentially increase fuel consumption.

“What is the purpose of WFH? If it is to save on potentially scarce fuel oil (BBM), then it is indeed best not to include Friday and Monday. This is to prevent WFH from being turned into a long weekend holiday, so that the original goal is not achieved, and it could even increase BBM consumption,” said Deddy when contacted on Friday (27/3/2026).

He proposed that WFH be taken between Tuesday and Thursday. He assessed that one of those days would be more suitable for implementing WFH.

“Therefore, the most suitable is Tuesday to Thursday, where Monday is used for planning or briefing and Friday for evaluation,” he said.

Furthermore, he also encouraged the establishment of SOPs for supervision, particularly for civil servants (ASN). He also views that public services should not involve WFH at all.

“What fields are allowed to do WFH? In my opinion, those related to essential public services should not do WFH because it will cause a domino effect on the public and economic activities,” he stated.

“Then how to regulate fields or units that can do WFH to ensure a sense of fairness? For this, I suggest that decisions on WFH shifts be left to each institution and regional heads or agency leaders,” he continued.

According to him, WFH should not be implemented nationally or uniformly. He believes it could later impact the quality of services.

Next, Deddy also highlighted the devices owned by ASN who do WFH. He said that if they are inadequate, then WFH is essentially a holiday for that ASN.

“Do all ASN have computer devices, tablets, or communication tools that are continuously connected during working hours? This is important because without it, it is essentially the same as a holiday since they cannot be supervised and do nothing. Call it a holiday and not WFH,” he said.

As is known, President Prabowo Subianto has not yet determined the day for working from home for workers to save energy. However, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said there has already been discussion on it, and the designated day has a majority consensus.
