PDIP Not Surprised by Jokowi's Appointment as PSI Advisory Council Chairman
PDIP Central Executive Council Chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat stated he was not surprised by reports that former party member and seventh President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, alias Jokowi, would become Chairman of the Advisory Council for the Solidarity Party (PSI). Djarot said he had known about Jokowi’s appointment since PSI registered its leadership structure following the Solo Congress 2025. ‘We’ve known about it for a while. When registering with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, it was clear the advisory council’s initials were ’J’. So that’s it,’ Djarot said during a PDIP training session on Saturday, 30 May.
He viewed PSI’s delay in announcing Jokowi’s name as mere drama, but the public would already understand his position in the party. ‘It’s obvious. The people are smart and can see through such dramas,’ he added.
PSI Central Executive Council Chairman Bestari Barus previously confirmed Jokowi’s appointment as PSI Advisory Council Chairman, a role previously held by Jeffrie Geovanie. However, Bestari said the official announcement awaits approval from party chairman Kaesang Pangarep. ‘Of course it’s true. It’s just a matter of timing; as General Chairman, we don’t want to pre-empt his decision,’ Bestari said when contacted on Tuesday, 26 May.
