PDIP Legislator Supports PPPK Teacher Restructuring, Urges Priority for 3T Regions
Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI Perjuangan faction, Stevano Rizki Adranacus, has responded to the Prabowo Subianto administration’s attention to the fate of teachers holding Government Employee with Work Agreement (PPPK) status. He welcomed the government’s plan to convert PPPK teachers to full-time status and eventually to civil servants (PNS).
“We appreciate the central government for listening to the aspirations of the public, particularly regarding the fate of PPPK teachers. They have served and are an important part of educating the nation,” Stevano said in a written statement on Thursday (20/8/2026).
The legislator from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) expressed hope that the policy would not only address administrative aspects but also consider the conditions and needs of educators in regions that have long faced resource constraints.
He specifically urged that the policy of appointing PPPK teachers to civil servant status be focused on the 3T regions (frontier, outermost and disadvantaged).
“The 3T regions must be a priority. Teachers serving in areas with geographical challenges and limited facilities need certainty and attention from the government,” he said.
Stevano gave particular attention to East Nusa Tenggara province. He assessed that NTT has geographical characteristics and challenges in educational equity that require affirmative policies from the central government.
“Specifically, I urge that NTT receive attention in this policy. Teachers in NTT have served amid various limitations. They deserve certainty and recognition for that service,” Stevano stressed.
According to him, strengthening the status of teachers in 3T regions could also be part of the government’s strategy to retain quality educators so they continue to serve in areas that need them.
“Thus, the policy not only provides certainty for teachers but also becomes part of efforts to accelerate the equitable distribution of quality education across Indonesia,” Stevano said.
Previously, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini stated that the number of PPPK teachers currently stands at 955,245, while part-time PPPK working as teachers totals 231,246. The government also projects a national teacher requirement of 526,689 positions.
“Part-time PPPK teachers will be given the opportunity to become full-time PPPK, which will be carried out in 2027,” Rini said.
Teachers with PPPK status will also be given the opportunity to participate in civil servant selection, with registration expected to begin in early 2027. The Minister of Finance stated that the scheme has undergone budget simulation and is deemed feasible while maintaining fiscal sustainability. The deficit in 2027 is still projected at around 2.4 percent.
