PDIP Launches 'Public Pulse 28' as a Progressive Intellectual Platform for Gen Z and Millennials
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (DPP PDIP) has launched a progressive intellectual movement for Gen Z and millennials called Public Pulse 28 at the Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The launch, held ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Youth Pledge in 2028, immediately staged its inaugural forum titled ‘The Fate of Young People in Golden Indonesia 2045’.
Chair of the DPP PDIP’s Youth and Sports Division, MY Esti Wijayati, explained that the idea for Public Pulse 28 had been in development since 2024 as a periodic dialectical space, and it is now officially scheduled to take place regularly on the 28th of every month, culminating in the centenary commemoration of the Youth Pledge on 28 October 2028.
Esti stressed that the Party School is open as a safe space for young people to express ideas and even to criticise government policy.
“It is in this space that we, together with young people, are given room for dialogue, to provide input, and to criticise if there are indeed policies that are less than appropriate. This also becomes a space for aspiration, for expression, and for conveying hopes,” Esti said at the Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Esti, who is also Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), emphasised once more that a climate of critical thinking among young people must continue to be nurtured and given healthy room for accommodation, rather than being silenced by those in power.
“We proclaim and declare that young people are the owners of the nation’s future, so critical thinking must be built up, not silenced, and this is a space that allows young people to bring beautiful colour to Indonesia Raya,” she asserted.
The forum brought together 30 students from various universities, invited at random, to write down their pulse — their feelings and ideas — directly, before receiving responses from the speakers.
The launch was also attended by Secretary-General of the DPP PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto and was moderated by young PDIP politician Muhammad Syaeful Mujab.
The accompanying speakers came from professional circles close to young people, namely Abigail Limuria, Co-Founder of What is Up Indonesia (WIUI) and author of the book “Makannya Mikir!” (Think Before You Eat!), and Berly Martawardaya, an economist at INDEF.
Interestingly, unlike typical forums, this inaugural discussion was not merely a one-way lecture. The organisers gave the 30 invited participants, selected at random from various universities, the opportunity to write down their pulse (feelings) and concrete ideas regarding the challenges facing the younger generation on the road to 2045. These writings then became material for discussion and direct responses from the speakers.
Moderator Muhammad Syaeful Mujab emphasised the urgency of the forum as an effort to listen to the voices of young people from Sabang to Merauke, two years ahead of the Youth Pledge centenary.
“In two years’ time we will commemorate one century of the Youth Pledge. If 1928 was the milestone that united the nation, then the centenary in 2028 must be present by feeling the pulse of the feelings, ideas, and concerns of young people. Welcome, everyone, to Public Pulse 28,” Mujab concluded.
Through Public Pulse 28, PDI Perjuangan is committed to continuing to open up space for healthy, scholarly, and inclusive discussion for the younger generation, regardless of differences, in order to accommodate pure aspirations that will determine the direction of the nation’s future leadership.
