PDIP: Jokowi Failed to Secure PSI's Parliamentary Entry as President, Let Alone Now

The Central Leadership Council (DPP) of PDIP has commented on reports that Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is to be appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PSI. PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli believes the news of Jokowi’s potential role will have no impact, noting that as president, Jokowi failed to secure PSI’s entry into Parliament – the party now led by his son. ‘Logically, if Jokowi couldn’t get PSI into Parliament during his presidency, it’s even less likely now,’ Gunrom said when contacted on Tuesday, 26 May. If the appointment is true, Gunrom stated PSI has effectively been ‘sold off’ by previous Supervisory Board Chairman Jeffrie Geovanie, making its ‘Tbk’ (open) status relevant. ‘Thus, it makes sense for PSI to claim its ’Tbk’ (open) concept, where anyone can ‘buy’ PSI,’ he said. PSI’s Political Affairs Head Bestari Barus confirmed Jokowi’s appointment as Supervisory Board Chairman, stating the announcement is pending the decision of General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep. He stressed that Jokowi’s role in PSI was clear since the July 2025 Congress in Solo, adding that Jokowi had confirmed his support for PSI. ‘Yes, it’s true. It’s just a matter of time when Kaesang, as General Chairman, makes the announcement. We don’t want to pre-empt him,’ Bestari said when contacted on Tuesday, 26 May.
