PDIP Joins Debate Between Cabinet Secretary Teddy and Dino Patti Djalal: Which Side Are They On?
PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) has joined the debate between Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal concerning the budget efficiency of President Prabowo’s official overseas travels. Through PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli, the party responded to Teddy Indra Wijaya’s rebuttal to Dino Patti Djalante regarding how foreign visits positively impact investment.
Guntur accused Cabinet Secretary Teddy of misleading the public by distorting investment realisation data to defend the frequency of President Prabowo Subianto’s international visits. “What Cabinet Secretary Teddy presented is not merely an overclaim. This is intentional public deception. Teddy is deliberately blurring the line between commitments and realisation, and attributing domestic investment achievements to foreign diplomacy to create a glamorous political narrative,” Guntur Romli stated in an Instagram video.
Guntur then presented detailed data from the Ministry of Investment/BKPM to support his criticism of the Palace’s claims. Based on BKPM data for 2025, the proportion of investment in Indonesia is dominated by domestic entrepreneurs rather than foreign investors. “Domestic Investment (PMDN) contributed Rp1,279 trillion or 52.6 per cent of total investment, while Foreign Investment (PMA) contributed Rp1,150 trillion or 47.4 per cent,” he explained.
Guntur added that BKPM data also shows that Foreign Direct Investment (PMA) realisation throughout 2025 remains stagnant. “This means the majority of investors are domestic. How can local investment be claimed as a result of President Prabowo’s overseas visits?” he questioned.
Furthermore, Guntur highlighted Teddy’s claims regarding potential investments worth Rp575 trillion resulting from President Prabowo’s visits to Japan and South Korea. He argued that these figures remain merely at the level of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) or business commitments and have not yet been recorded as realised investment through BKPM. “The public deserves honest facts, not bombastic and misleading statements,” Guntur concluded.
