The PDIP central board has instructed regional government heads through to leaders of the party’s fraction in provincial, district, and city legislatures to closely monitor the escalating conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on global crude oil prices.

The instruction, contained in letter number 963/IN/DPP/III/2026 addressed to regional heads or deputy regional heads and provincial, district, and city legislative council leaders of PDI Perjuangan cadres, warns that the Middle East conflict will drive up global crude oil prices. According to the instruction statement seen on Monday (9 March 2026), every one-dollar increase in global crude oil prices has the potential to add approximately 7 trillion rupiah to Indonesia’s fuel subsidy burden.

Rising global oil prices will impact fuel prices and increase the cost of goods distribution, leading to higher food prices. The PDIP central board is requesting its cadres to strengthen the legislative oversight function over regional budget implementation.

The instruction, signed by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and PDIP Central Board Chair for Industry, Trade, State-Owned Enterprises, and Investment Darmadi Durianto, asks cadres to anticipate all possibilities. PDIP has also requested regional heads to conduct comprehensive calculations and analysis of fiscal impacts on regional budgets (APBD), including the potential for increased subsidy spending.

The full list of instructions from the PDIP central board to its cadres serving as regional heads and legislative leaders includes:

  1. Strengthening the legislative oversight function over regional budget implementation in a constructive, effective, and responsible manner in accordance with applicable regulations.

  2. Conducting comprehensive calculations and analysis of fiscal impacts on regional budgets, including potential increases in subsidy spending, operational expenditure, and public service spending.

  3. Implementing budget savings and efficiency measures by prioritising spending that directly serves the interests of the public whilst deferring non-urgent activities.

  4. Anticipating increases in food prices and distribution costs, whilst ensuring supply stability and price affordability in each region.

  5. Strengthening social safety net programmes for low-income communities, labourers, farmers, fishermen, micro, small, and medium business operators, and other vulnerable groups. The instruction is issued for implementation with full responsibility, discipline, and commitment to the interests of ordinary people as an expression of the party’s ideological commitment.
