PDIP Hits Back at PSI: Jokowi Was Sacked in December 2024, Not Resigned

DPP PSI Chairman Bestari Barus stated that the planned presentation of a PSI jacket to the 7th President of Indonesia, Jokowi, signifies he is no longer with PDIP. PDIP politician Guntur Romli asserted that Jokowi was already sacked in December 2024.

“I am correcting the headline. Jokowi is not just no longer with PDI Perjuangan, but Jokowi has been sacked by PDI Perjuangan, along with Gibran, Bobby and 27 others in December 2024, for constitutional violations, violations of the party’s constitution and bylaws, and party regulations,” Guntur said when contacted on Sunday (14/6/2026).

“So Jokowi did not leave PDI Perjuangan or resign, but was sacked for violations. Because he has already been sacked, it is no longer PDI Perjuangan’s concern whether he remains without a party or joins another,” he added.

Guntur also brought up the fact that Jokowi’s followers, when he was still in PDIP, refused to have him called a ‘party officer’. He took a swipe at this.

“Just a reminder, Jokowi’s supporters used to not want Jokowi to be called a ‘party officer’ when he was with PDI Perjuangan, they said it was an insult. So with Jokowi joining a party only for that party’s electoral interests, it means he is eating his own words here,” he said.

Furthermore, he also commented on Jokowi’s position in PSI, which he considers to be merely that of a servant.

“The difference is, as a ‘party officer’, Jokowi as a party member (of PDI Perjuangan) was assigned for the interests of the people and the state. As a ‘party flunkey’, Jokowi as a party member (of PSI) only works for the electoral interests of the party, that’s all,” he said.

Previously, DPP PSI Chairman Bestari Barus said his party would soon present a PSI jacket to Jokowi as a formal sign of him becoming Chairman of the Advisory Board. Bestari said the jacket presentation also marks that Jokowi is no longer with PDIP.

Bestari said the jacket presentation will be carried out by PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep. However, Bestari has not yet confirmed exactly when the jacket presentation will take place.

“Yes, it could be like that (before touring), it could flow. The most important thing is that it becomes a public declaration that Mr Jokowi is not just words,” Bestari told reporters on Saturday (13/6/2026).

“But later, after the jacket is presented and officially announced by the Chairman, it will become the widest possible public declaration that Mr Jokowi is now with PSI and no longer with PDI,” he continued.
