PDIP Highlights Economic Hardship After Man Beaten to Death in Bali Over Chicken Theft
Jakarta, VIVA – A man in Bali died after being beaten by a mob on suspicion of stealing a chicken belonging to a resident in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Tabanan Regency.
Secretary-General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto said his party would provide assistance to the victim’s family.
“For the case in Bali, we will follow up promptly by providing assistance to the victim,” Hasto said at the PDIP Central Executive Board office, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
He said there must be no injustice befalling the people, especially those facing economic hardship due to the various challenges currently taking place.
“Everyone forgets that Indonesia was established to protect the entire nation and all of the Indonesian homeland,” Hasto said.
“There must be no injustice, let alone injustice shown in an extreme manner to people who may be facing economic hardship due to challenges that are far from light at present,” he continued.
The vigilante incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 24 July 2026.
According to police information, the incident began at around 01.30 Central Indonesia Time when KD was suspected of attempting to steal a fighting chicken belonging to I Wayan Adi Suteja (IWS), a resident of Banjar Juwuk Legi.
When his actions were discovered, KD attempted to flee. However, residents, who had long been uneasy due to frequent losses of their chickens, immediately gave chase. The mob’s emotions ran high, culminating in the beating of KD.
“The residents were emotional because of the prevalence of chicken thefts in the area, and then carried out a beating of the suspected perpetrator until he died at the scene,” said Head of Public Relations for the Tabanan Police, Inspector Ni Luh Putu Wiwik Endrayani.
Not only did they assault KD, the residents also burnt the motorcycle the man had been riding until it was completely charred before the police arrived at the location.
Officers from the Baturiti Sector Police who received the report immediately went to the scene at around 02.00 Central Indonesia Time.
However, upon arrival, the victim had already died and could not receive medical assistance in time.
