PDIP Hears of Discussions on Crucial Issues at Leadership Level Regarding Election Law

Deputy Chair of Commission II of the DPR and PDIP Central Executive Board Chairman Deddy Sitorus stated that he has heard of discussions at the leadership level regarding revisions to the Election Law. However, Deddy mentioned that no draft of the Election Bill has been created yet.

“I have heard that there are already preliminary and informal discussions at the leadership level related to several crucial issues. So far, nothing formal like a draft exists because it is still being refined at the DPR’s Expert Body,” Deddy told reporters on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

Deddy said that the KPU selection committee should be formed in September 2026 if following the current Election Law. He refrained from predicting whether the formation of the election organiser would follow a new law or the existing one.

“I don’t know if it will use the new law from the revision or stick with the existing one. We’ll just wait; everything depends on the government and DPR leadership in the next one or two months,” he said.

Deddy emphasised that the government is targeting to complete the Election Law draft soon. He believes that the government and DPR have enough time to prepare for the election stages.

“So, the government’s revision draft should be in April 2026. In my view, this is realistic to meet the deadline and give us enough time for the election stages,” he stated.

As is known, the DPR is rumoured to be discussing revisions to the Election Law secretly or behind closed doors. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani has already denied the rumour.

Meanwhile, PKB Secretary-General Hasanuddin Wahid, or Cak Udin, is pushing for the Election Bill to be discussed this year. Cak Udin said that his party is still discussing the seat calculation system.

“Each party is conducting studies, discussions, in-depth analyses, and simulations on the crucial materials of the Election Law. In addition, Commission II has held various coordinations, hearings, and discussions with various stakeholders,” Cak Udin told reporters on Wednesday (22/4).

“The hope is that official discussions on the Election Bill can be held this year, either through a working committee or otherwise,” he added.
