“I don’t know, the election is still a long way off. The election is still a long way off,” said Hugo, who is also Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

The statement was made when Hugo was asked about PDI Perjuangan’s stance regarding the dynamics of legislative candidate nominations for the 2029 election, including the plan of Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Chairman Kaesang Pangarep to run from Electoral District V of Central Java.

Hugo did not elaborate further on the possibility of a special PDI Perjuangan strategy to face Kaesang’s plan.

Previously, PDI Perjuangan DPP Chairwoman Puan Maharani responded to Kaesang’s plan to run from the same electoral district as her in the 2029 legislative election.

Puan, who is also Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, said that fielding candidates in a particular electoral district is the right of every political party.

“It is the right of every political party to put forward any name in all electoral districts,” said Puan at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/8).

The announcement was made when Kaesang delivered a speech at the Regional Coordination Meeting of the PSI Solo City Regional Executive Board in Solo, Central Java, on Saturday evening (25/7).

Electoral District V of Central Java covers Surakarta City, Sukoharjo Regency, Klaten Regency, and Boyolali Regency. This electoral district has been the constituency where Puan has contested since the 2009 election.

In the 2009 election, Puan obtained 242,504 votes and was elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from that electoral district.

In the 2024 election, Puan again ran from Electoral District V of Central Java and obtained 297,366 votes, making her the top vote-getter in that electoral district.
