PDIP Considers Parliamentary Threshold Difficult to Lower, Predicts Above 5 Per Cent
PDIP politician Aria Bima has said the parliamentary threshold for factions in the House of Representatives (DPR RI) would be difficult to lower, predicting the figure will remain above 5 per cent.
“I think if we want to lower it again with 13 commissions, it appears too onerous,” Aria Bima said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (19 February 2026).
“Even those at 4 per cent are already struggling, let alone 3 per cent. I think it will certainly be above 5 per cent,” he added.
The Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission II also commented on the current composition of factions, from the smallest to the largest. He noted that all existing factions currently hold vote shares above 6 per cent.
“At present, all existing factions are already at roughly above 6 per cent. From the smallest, the Democrats, to the largest, PDIP, the range is between above 6 and around 20 per cent,” he said.
On the other hand, Aria emphasised that representativeness should not be calculated solely in quantitative terms but also qualitatively. DPR members represent their constituencies and the Indonesian people, not merely their parties.
“In my view, representativeness should certainly also be assessed qualitatively, not just quantitatively. That is more or less PDIP’s consideration regarding the threshold figure — it should be calculated based on the minimum requirements for the functioning of parliamentary instruments,” he said.
