PDIP Chair Surprised by Prabowo’s Attendance at Plenary Session Today: There Is a Special Situation

Chairman of the DPP PDIP and also Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR RI, Andreas Hugo Pareira, was surprised that President Prabowo Subianto would attend the DPR RI’s plenary session held this morning. He believed there was certainly a special situation.

“Yes, I was surprised; I was also taken aback. Receiving an invitation to the plenary meeting with a message that the president would attend. In the time I have served in the DPR RI it feels like this is the first time the president has directly intervened, attending the DPR plenary to deliver the macroeconomic framework (KEM),” he told reporters, Tuesday (20/5/2026).

Andreas said he did not know the reason for the president’s direct attendance. Usually the president simply tasks the Minister of Finance to discuss macroeconomics and fiscal policy.

“I don’t know the reason. My guess is that this is due to a special situation. Because in normal circumstances, the president should simply task the Minister of Finance to represent the government and explain to the people through the DPR plenary forum. We will wait to see what the president will explain.”

Andreas also hopes Prabowo will simultaneously explain Indonesia’s economic situation in real terms. In his view, this is important as a reference for investors.

As is known, the DPR will hold its nineteenth plenary meeting of the fifth session of the 2025-2026 legislative year on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. It is planned that President Prabowo Subianto will attend the plenary session.

“Yes, that’s the plan (that Prabowo will attend the plenary),” said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May.

Saan said that Prabowo would deliver the macroeconomic framework (KEM). He is also said to outline the main points of fiscal policy (PPKF).

“So, for the delivery of the macroeconomic framework, and also the main points of fiscal policy that will be delivered directly by the President,” he added.

The NasDem Party politician said this would mark Prabowo’s first appearance at the DPR plenary.

“Yes, as far as I know, it is his first,” he said.
