Three TNI soldiers attached to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent were once again injured in an explosion in El Adeisse, southern Lebanon. PDIP legislator TB Hasanuddin has called on the government to thoroughly investigate the incident that wounded the TNI soldiers.

“The government must promptly advocate for a comprehensive, transparent, and independent investigation. Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN should issue an official demand to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to fully probe this incident,” said TB Hasanuddin when contacted on Sunday (5/4/2026).

This member of the DPR’s Commission I stated that the investigation’s focus should be on ascertaining whether the explosion was an unintended consequence of conflict or a violation of international law.

He noted that if the TNI troops were injured due to a proven deliberate attack, it could be classified as a war crime.

“The investigation’s focus must determine whether this was purely a conflict fallout or involved intentional elements. If it is proven to be an attack on peacekeeping personnel, then it is a serious violation and can be categorised as a war crime,” TB Hasanuddin stressed.

TB Hasanuddin also urged the Indonesian government to take a firm stance in international forums. According to him, attacks on UN symbols and personnel cannot be tolerated and must be met with full accountability from the responsible parties.

On the other hand, he emphasised the importance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ active role in overseeing the investigation process.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must conduct strict monitoring of all stages of the UNIFIL investigation, from evidence collection and data analysis to verification of the incident’s timeline. Additionally, the Ministry must ensure that the rights of the injured soldiers are fulfilled and continue to apply diplomatic pressure to ensure the process is completed thoroughly,” he explained.

In addition to the investigation, TB Hasanuddin highlighted the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the TNI contingent’s security system in Lebanon. He called on TNI Headquarters to immediately review operational procedures and personnel protection in the field.

“The evaluation must include reviewing outpost positions to place them in safer zones, enhancing physical protection at bases, and tightening standard operating procedures during escalations in the operational area,” said TB Hasanuddin.

Furthermore, TB Hasanuddin reminded the government to seriously consider the sustainability of Indonesia’s involvement in the UNIFIL mission if the situation continues to deteriorate.

“If our presence there no longer provides significant benefits and instead endangers TNI soldiers, while local parties are uncooperative and the UN appears weak, then the option to withdraw troops must be seriously considered,” he said.

“The safety of soldiers is the top priority. International commitments must still be honoured, but with careful calculations and maximum protection for every one of our personnel,” TB Hasanuddin added.

Three TNI soldiers serving with the UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured in an explosion attack. Two of them sustained serious injuries.

“An explosion inside a UN facility near El Adeisse injured three peacekeepers, two of whom suffered serious injuries,” said UNIFIL Spokesperson Kandice Ardiel to reporters on Saturday (4/4).

The explosion occurred on Friday afternoon (3/4). However, its origin remains unknown.

Previously, three TNI soldiers were killed on duty in Lebanon after coming under Israeli attack on 29 and 30 March 2026. They were Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur, and Leading Soldier Farizal Rhomadhon.
