PDIP Appoints Syaifuddin Zuhri as Surabaya DPRD Chairman, Said Abdullah Provides Explanation

The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has appointed Syaifuddin Zuhri as the Chairman of the Surabaya City DPRD for the 2024–2029 period, replacing the late Dominikus Adi Sutarwijono who passed away.

PDIP Jatim Chairman Said Abdullah stated that this decision is the prerogative of PDIP.

“Brother Syaifuddin Zuhri, who is currently the Secretary of the PDIP Surabaya DPC, we ask to build good synergy between the mayor, deputy mayor, and the Surabaya City DPRD,” he said in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026).

He noted that the residents of Surabaya have entrusted a great responsibility to PDIP. “We must not let the people of Surabaya think we are not trustworthy,” Said remarked.

Therefore, he urged Syaifuddin Zuhri to be more aspirational, making the Surabaya City DPRD the best aspirator for the city’s residents.

“Guard the trust of the people entrusted through PDIP in Surabaya. Do not shame the Party and the honourable Surabaya City DPRD institution. Guard that honour as best as possible,” he stated.

Said mentioned that the residents of Surabaya are intelligent people, with a more educated society compared to other regions. Surabaya is the second-largest city after Jakarta.
