PDI, Soerjadi and Megawati

PDI, Soerjadi and Megawati

From Sinar Pagi

Sinar Pagi on Aug. 6, 1994 published two items entitled
Soerjadi ready to be recalled and Department of Home Affairs
warns Megawati Soekarnoputri.

In a press conference held on Aug. 5, 1994 Soerjadi emphasized
that the Executive Board of PDI (Indonesian Democratic Party) had
the right to recall its member from his function as a Vice
Chairman of the House of Representatives. So there was nothing to
worry about.

Meanwhile the Department of Home Affairs had surprisingly
demanded that PDI give serious attention on the issue of the
integrity and unity of the organization. In some regional
conferences, the elections of the chairmen did not follow the
rules of the game.

I was wondering how could it be possible for Megawati to act
in such an unpopular way. Or it was only a trick by certain
individuals that were jealous of the PDI's rapid growth, with the
purpose of upsetting the organization? Even Megawati's private
life is not spared from their attention, something which does not
appear ethical.
