PDI runs out of money

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: The local Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) chapter has run out of money on the third day of campaigning.

Local PDI officials are uncertain if they can continue their campaign now that the party's coffers are empty.

"It's difficult to continue campaigning at the moment. This year, the local government gave only Rp 5 million (US$2,000) for the campaign activities," said Darmos J. Kiong, chairman of the Palangkaraya PDI chapter.

Five years ago, he said, the party provided Rp 15,000 for each campaigner, Antara reported.

He said he hoped party supporters would not be dismayed by the PDI's quiet campaigning. (pan)
