The presence of our delegation here is part of PDI Perjuangan’s ongoing commitment to ensure that party institutionalisation proceeds hand in hand with strengthening the quality of democracy both in Indonesia and in various other regions, particularly in Southeast Asia,” said Hasto, as quoted from a press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

Quoting Bung Karno, Hasto stated that Indonesian democracy is uniquely characterised by political and economic democracy as driving forces for the independence of every citizen and the realisation of social justice ideals.

In this forum titled “All About Democracy,” Hasto Kristiyanto is scheduled to be one of the main speakers in the Policy Roundtable on Democratic Resilience session on Friday (27/3).

Hasto will discuss the topic “Political Party Institutionalization and Strategic Campaign.” He will also share the panel with Filipino political figure Florencio “Butch” Abad and the Secretary General of the Singapore Democratic Party, Chee Soon Juan.

In addition to attending discussions, the PDI Perjuangan delegation will vote in the 52nd CALD Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting to elect new CALD leadership for the 2026-2028 period.

“We are present to reaffirm PDI Perjuangan’s position in supporting the forum’s main message that democracy in Asia must be maintained and its benefits expanded for all citizens,” Hasto stated.

Hasto’s attendance in Manila was accompanied by the Chairman of the International Relations Department of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board, Hanjaya Setiawan, the PDI Perjuangan Depok Branch Executive Board official drg. Rahma Charliyan, and several party sympathisers.

The event was officially opened by the President of the Liberal Party of the Philippines, Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III.

Immediately after the opening, the agenda continued with a seminar session on the role of women titled “Democratic Resilience at Risk: Violence Against Women in Politics in Asia.”

This session featured iconic Filipino democracy figure Leila de Lima as the main panellist. De Lima, along with panellists from Taiwan and Thailand, dissected threats of violence and disinformation targeting female politicians as real challenges to democratic resilience in the region.
