PDI Perjuangan row goes to court

JAKARTA: The dispute between the Surabaya chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) which pits the party's board of executives and secretary-general Sutjipto will be settled in court.

Representative of the Surabaya chapter, PDI Perjuangan legislator Haryanto Taslam confirmed that the lawsuit had been registered at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.

The case revolves around the dismissal of Surabaya's board of executives by the central board in December last year with unclear reasons.

According to dismissed regional chairman Moch. Basuki, the decision had tarnished his image, so he solicited Sutjipto and the board of executives to formally annul the dismissal.

Basuki also asked for compensation amounting to Rp 1 billion and urged Sutjipto to publicly apologize via the national media. -- JP
