PALANGKA RAYA, Central Kalimantan: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to attend a ceremony for the 29th anniversary of her Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) on Jan. 13 in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan.
Saily Muchtar, PDI Perjuangan secretary of the provincial party branch, said here on Thursday that Palangka Raya was chosen as the host of this year's anniversary due to its security.
"It's an honor and we will do our best to make it a success. We will show that people in Central Kalimantan love peace and abhor conflict," Saily said.
Some cabinet ministers and other high-ranking officials, ambassadors and PDI Perjuangan executives from the regency and provincial chapters will attend the celebration.
The ceremony will feature a cultural show involving national and local artists.
Central Kalimantan saw intense ethnic and religious fighting between Dayaks, originally from Kalimantan and Javanese migrants from Madura Island in East Java earlier this year. The transmigrants returned to Java several months ago and there has been peace ever since.--Antara
