PDI Perjuangan Marks 30 Years Since Kudatuli with Theatrical Performance

The Gates USBR Theatre Group staged a Theatrical Reconstruction of Kudatuli at the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board office in Jakarta on Sunday (26/7/2026). The performance was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary, or three decades, of the 27 July 1996 riots (Kudatuli), a significant event in Indonesia’s political journey leading up to the reform era. The actors brought to life a number of scenes depicting the situation before and during the Kudatuli incident. The theatrical performance served as a medium for reflection to remember one of the events that coloured the national political dynamics of the 1990s. The three-decade commemoration of Kudatuli was attended by cadres, sympathisers, and members of the public who followed the series of activities remembering the event. In addition to the theatre performance, the commemoration was also filled with reflection activities on the values of democracy, freedom of speech, and the journey of Indonesian political history.
