PDI Perjuangan East Java Distributes 485 Sacrificial Cows to Islamic Boarding Schools and Orphanages
PDI Perjuangan East Java’s Provincial Council has distributed 485 sacrificial cows for the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Adha celebration. The hundreds of cattle were mass-distributed via PDI Perjuangan district-level offices across East Java, Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren), religious community organisations (ormas), mosques, and orphanages.
PDI Perjuangan East Java Chairman Said Abdullah stated that this community-driven initiative is an annual party commitment. He emphasised that Eid al-Adha is not merely an individual spiritual ritual but a crucial moment to strengthen social solidarity within society.
“Eid al-Adha is both a spiritual and social act of worship. As the leader of PDI Perjuangan in East Java, we want to share with poor households, mostly working in the informal sector, so they can experience the blessings of Eid al-Adha,” Said said in a written statement on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
During the event, Said highlighted East Java’s labour structure dominated by the informal sector. Macro data shows that 64.4% of the working population in East Java is in informal jobs, higher than the national average of 59.4%.
This high percentage of informal workers correlates with vulnerable welfare for poor families, as they lack protection from ideal labour regulations.
“This indicates that despite working, East Java residents do not receive fair wages, health insurance, pension insurance, severance pay when laid off, leave entitlements, or all the rights typically afforded to formal sector workers,” said the Chairman of the DPR RI’s Budgetary Agency (Banggar).
Said further presented ironic data on East Java’s nutritional adequacy. Current per capita beef consumption stands at just 6-9 grams per week, far below the global average of 150-200 grams and even higher in developed nations.
This situation contrasts sharply with East Java’s status as Indonesia’s largest cattle-producing province.
“This data is truly ironic. East Java is Indonesia’s largest cattle-producing province, with over 100,000 tonnes of beef and dairy cattle produced annually to supply local and national meat needs, yet its residents consume minimal amounts and suffer from low nutritional adequacy,” Said said.
Addressing this reality, PDI Perjuangan cadres in East Java initiated a collective contribution (urunan) to facilitate the procurement of hundreds of sacrificial animals. The move aims to supply animal protein to vulnerable communities who struggle to access beef due to high prices.
“During this Eid al-Adha, we have resolved to help the poor improve their situation, at least allowing them to joyfully enjoy sacrificial meat. We hope the Provincial Council’s efforts become a social fabric, embodying the party’s identity of ‘Wong Cilik’ (common people) sharing with ‘Wong Cilik’,” he concluded.
Masjid Istiqlal received 63 cows, 18 goats, and one sheep, which are scheduled for slaughter on 28 May 2026.
The trend of online Qurban is overshadowed by rising digital fraud, with perpetrators exploiting high transaction volumes through various schemes.
During this year’s Eid al-Adha, HKBP Batam Centre distributed three sacrificial goats to residents across three locations in Batam City.
All aid distributions were prioritised to directly reach those in need, including low-income groups, the elderly, and orphans.
The use of bamboo baskets, besides being environmentally friendly, aims to reduce plastic waste accumulation after meat distribution.
