PDI Perjuangan cadres take drugs test

JAKARTA: The ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) administered urine tests to all of its functionaries on Tuesday to test for drug use.

"This is part of PDI Perjuangan's commitment to combating the use of drugs," PDI Perjuangan deputy secretary-general Pramono Anung said during a press briefing following the party's weekly meeting on Tuesday.

The results of the drug tests are expected to be announced on Wednesday, and according to Pramono, any party functionaries who test positive for drugs will be expelled immediately.

Party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the President, was exempt from the test because according to protocol, the President of the Republic of Indonesia can only be examined by presidential doctors. -- JP
