PDI Perjuangan Appoints Syaifuddin Zuhri as Surabaya DPRD Chairman
The PDI Perjuangan central executive board has officially appointed Syaifuddin Zuhri, affectionately known as Kaji Ipuk, as the Chairman of the Surabaya City DPRD for the 2024-2029 period, replacing Adi Sutarwijono who has passed away.
This was conveyed by the Chairman of the East Java PDI Perjuangan Provincial Executive Board, Said Abdullah, in his statement on Wednesday (22/4). According to him, the decision is the political right of PDI Perjuangan as the winning party in the Surabaya DPRD.
“The PDI Perjuangan central executive board has indeed decided and appointed Brother Syaifuddin Zuhri as the Chairman of the Surabaya City DPRD,” Said stated.
Furthermore, Said urged Syaifuddin Zuhri, who currently serves as the Secretary of the Surabaya PDI Perjuangan District Executive Board, to build strong synergy between the legislative and executive branches, particularly with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Surabaya.
This synergy is deemed essential to ensure the smooth running of an effective and responsive government that addresses the needs of the community.
He also stressed that the mandate given by Surabaya’s residents to PDI Perjuangan must be upheld with full responsibility. According to him, the new DPRD Chairman must be able to carry out institutional functions in an aspirational manner and be sensitive to public dynamics and needs.
“Guard the trust of the people entrusted through PDI Perjuangan in Surabaya. Do not disgrace the Party and the honourable Surabaya City DPRD institution. Preserve that honour as best as possible,” Said said.
On this occasion, Said stated that as Indonesia’s second-largest city after Jakarta, Surabaya is regarded as a showcase for various sectors, from economy, trade, education, health, to democracy.
Therefore, he emphasised that the three PDI Perjuangan cadres entrusted as Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and DPRD Chairman must be able to capture the aspirations of the community.
“Once again, the PDI Perjuangan central executive board has decided on Brother Syaifuddin Zuhri as the Chairman of the Surabaya City DPRD, replacing the late Brother Adi Sutarwijono. I request that all party ranks stand firmly in securing the central executive board’s decision. And help ensure the success of leadership in the executive and legislative branches in Surabaya City,” he said.
On the other hand, the PDI Perjuangan central executive board and East Java Provincial Executive Board, Said continued, remain open to evaluations of the performance of cadres in Surabaya.
“We, in the PDI Perjuangan central executive board and East Java Provincial Executive Board, will always be open, listening to corrections and evaluations of the performance of PDI Perjuangan cadres in Surabaya, both in the executive and legislative branches, and we interpret this as the people’s love for PDI Perjuangan and Surabaya City,” Said stated.
