PDI-P urges House to debate fuel policy

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has requested that House of Representatives leadership hold a meeting with leaders of the House factions to decide on a proposal from the National Awakening Party (PKB) for the House to hold an extraordinary plenary meeting to discuss the recent oil-based fuel hikes.

"We are demanding a quick response. If possible, the consultation meeting could be held on Monday so that the extraordinary plenary meeting can be held on Oct. 20 or Oct. 21," said PDI-P faction secretary Jacobus K. Mayongpadang after submitting the request to House Speaker Agung Laksono on Friday.

The PDI-P and PKB have been the strongest critics in the House of the government's fuel policy. But Agung, who is from the Golkar Party, the largest party in the House and the main supporter of the current government, has expressed his disagreement with the PKB proposal. -- Detik.com
