PDI-P remains aloof on Golkar bid

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has cold-shouldered Golkar Party chairman Akbar Tandjung's statement on a possible coalition between the two major parties.

PDI-P deputy secretary-general Pramono Anung said on Tuesday that the coalition plan was not in consideration.

"We have never talked about that," he said.

Akbar said in the Central Java town of Surakarta over the weekend that he was ready to be the running mate of PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri in the July presidential election.

Pramono said the party was preparing for the April 5 legislative election, and could not begin any discussion on Megawati's running mate. -- JP
