PDI-P: Prabowo's Current Challenges Largely Legacy of Jokowi's Administration
PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto stated that the challenges currently faced by President Prabowo Subianto’s administration are a culmination of issues inherited from the second term of the seventh Indonesian president, Joko Widodo. Hasto said the challenges confronting Prabowo’s government did not arise suddenly but have been ongoing for several years. ‘PDI-P believes objectivity is crucial when assessing the national situation. The economic, fiscal, governance, and social challenges currently faced by President Prabowo are largely inherited from President Joko Widodo’s second term,’ Hasto told reporters on Monday, 1 June 2026. ‘Therefore, national unity and collaboration from all sectors of society are needed to assist the government in finding the best solutions,’ Hasto added. ‘This warmth reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation and national brotherhood essential for tackling the country’s current challenges,’ he added. Hasto noted that both Prabowo and Megawati demonstrated mutual respect as national figures bearing historical responsibility for Indonesia’s future. Earlier reports stated that President Prabowo Subianto and former fifth president Megawati Soekarnoputri smiled warmly after the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. Prabowo and Megawati left the ceremony venue holding hands. According to footage from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo first descended from the ceremony podium to greet former presidents and vice-presidents, including Megawati, Jusuf Kalla, and Ma’ruf Amin.
