PDI-P Politician: Two-Faced Politics Is Not Our Style

Young politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Melki Sedek Huang, has denied that his party is playing two-faced politics in the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming administration.

“PDI Perjuangan is not playing two-faced politics. Two-faced politics is not our style,” Melki said in a written statement received on Monday, 6 April 2026.

Melki, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of PDI Perjuangan in West Kalimantan, stated that his party is full of cadres who are rational and objective.

“Thus, it is natural for PDI Perjuangan cadres to support many positive government actions that benefit the people, while still providing constructive criticism if otherwise,” he explained.

Furthermore, the former Chairman of the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) emphasised that PDI Perjuangan General Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri fully understands the character of her cadres, thus promoting the concept of a balancing party that is very appropriate for Indonesia’s current condition.

“The DPR under the leadership of Mrs Puan Maharani continues to ensure that PDI Perjuangan members of parliament carry out their constitutional duties well, as evidenced by the many actions of its members,” he asserted.

In addition, Chairman of Commission V of the DPR RI, Lasarus, is in a position to fully support positive government policies while remaining critical of policies that could be improved, as is Dolfie Othniel Frederic Palit, a two-term DPR RI member who now serves as Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPD in Central Java; he engages in constructive dialogues on macroeconomics with various public institutions.

“Likewise, Banggar Chairman Mr Said Abdullah, who is always open to fellow media regarding his observations on the state's fiscal condition. Not to mention Adian Napitupulu, Mufti Anam, and many other PDI Perjuangan legislators who carry out their duties to the maximum,” Melki said.

Melki also stressed that the meeting between Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo should not be seen as a high-level political negotiation among elites that causes PDI Perjuangan to lose its position.

“That meeting is a silaturahmi between two national leaders focused on seeking solutions to current issues that require the involvement of many elements, including PDI Perjuangan. The meeting between Mrs Mega and Mr Prabowo should actually be held more routinely,” Melki stated.

Previously, Tempo published a report titled "What's the Point of PDI-P Playing Two-Faced Politics in Front of Prabowo." The report questioned PDI-P's stance, which has recently often criticised government programmes such as the free nutritious meals or MBG and the Red White Village Cooperatives. However, on the other hand, there was a meeting between PDI Perjuangan General Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto.

Four PDI Perjuangan politicians recounted that criticism of Prabowo stems from discussions in special internal party forums. PDI-P holds regular meetings to monitor policies made by the Red White Cabinet.

In addition to holding weekly meetings, PDI Perjuangan often conducts closed focused group discussions. PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said that in the first 17 months of the Prabowo administration, their party has held at least 48 discussions.
