Jakarta (ANTARA) - PDI Perjuangan (PDI-P) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto affirmed that the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations represent a moment of reflection to strengthen the national spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and social solidarity amidst various global and domestic challenges, including natural disasters occurring in several regions across Indonesia.

“We need to strengthen gotong royong as a national character. In the spirit of the Lunar New Year, let us tighten our bonds of brotherhood and support one another — including helping our fellow citizens affected by disasters. The Lunar New Year is not merely a cultural celebration, but a moment to strengthen unity, social solidarity, and tolerance in Indonesia,” Hasto said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Hasto reminded that Indonesia was built within the framework of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), where all citizens, regardless of ethnic, religious, racial, or cultural background, hold equal rights and responsibilities in advancing the nation.

For this reason, PDI Perjuangan has consistently supported respect for religious freedom and the preservation of culture as part of the nation’s identity.

PDI Perjuangan is committed to maintaining an inclusive, tolerant, and socially just national space, as the party considers itself the home of the greater Indonesian nation.

“Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri has always taught us to continually ignite the spirit of nationalism — the spirit of Indonesia for all. Indonesia was built by everyone through gotong royong, including the Chinese-Indonesian community,” Hasto said.

Closing his statement, the Yogyakarta-born politician expressed hope that the 2026 Lunar New Year would bring blessings, good health, and progress for all Indonesians.

“May the 2026 Lunar New Year bring blessings, good health, and progress for all the people of Indonesia. May we all be granted the strength to continue working for the welfare of the people and the glory of Indonesia. Gong Xi Fa Cai,” Hasto said.
