PDI-P Launches 'RedTalks' as a Dialogue Platform for the Younger Generation

The Chairman of the PDI-P Regional Representative Council (DPD) for East Java, Said Abdullah, has emphasised that today’s youth possess a different perspective compared to previous generations. He stated that an open and equal space for dialogue is therefore an essential requirement to ensure the ideas, criticisms, and hopes of the younger generation are heard. “It is on this basis that we are presenting RedTalks. This is not merely a discussion forum, but a shared platform where we listen to the voices of young people. For us, the voice of the youth is the voice of idealism, because they are not yet heavily bound by various interests,” Said Abdullah told the media on Friday (24/7/2026). Said explained that the current younger generation—ranging from Generation Y and Generation Z to the early Alpha generation—is growing up in two simultaneous living spaces: the real world and the digital world. This condition means they have far more complex social experiences than previous generations. “Young people today live in two worlds. They are connected to various events across the globe through digital technology. Because of this, they have a broader, more critical perspective and are able to compare different conditions occurring in many places,” he said. According to Said, this situation demands a change in communication patterns between policymakers, political parties, and the younger generation. A one-way approach is no longer relevant to address the dynamics of the times. “Young people do not just want to be listeners. They want to be heard. Therefore, communication with the younger generation must be dialogical, involving an exchange of ideas, not just conveying messages unilaterally,” he asserted.
