JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PDI-P General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto hopes that political parties in the DPR can work together so that discussions on revising the Election Law (UU Pemilu) can be carried out promptly.

Hasto assessed that discussions on revising the Election Law are important to start immediately because they are directly related to the quality of democracy in Indonesia.

“That is why PDI-P is pushing for cooperation with factions so that discussions on the Election Law can be carried out promptly,” said Hasto when met at the PDI-P Party School on Saturday (18/4/2026).

“Elections encompass the vital interests of the people manifested in the free and sovereign voices of the people expressing their choices,” he explained.

Furthermore, Hasto emphasised that PDI-P has undertaken various preparations to discuss strategic issues in the electoral system.

“PDI-P has prepared by holding multiple workshops to discuss strategic issues related to the electoral system, the minimum threshold, and how to enhance the independence of election organisers so that the principles of direct, general, free, secret, honest, and fair can truly be implemented,” he concluded.

An internal meeting of DPR RI Commission II on Tuesday (14/4/2026), scheduled to hear an initial presentation of the Election Bill draft, was cancelled.

Deputy Chairman of DPR RI Commission II Zulfikar Arse Sadikin said the cancellation occurred because the draft and academic paper of the Election Bill were not yet available.

“We see that it’s not yet time for an internal meeting because what has been prepared is just a kind of paper,” said Zulfikar at the DPR RI Building on Friday (17/4/2026).

He added that the meeting was ultimately redirected to a leadership discussion with faction group chairmen.

“By agreement of the leadership, the meeting did not become an internal meeting. But a leadership meeting with kapoksi,” he stated.

“To what extent we adjust it, and we also give space for opinions from many stakeholders. That’s the extent for now,” he said.

Zulfikar explained that discussions will continue after the materials prepared by the DPR Expert Body approach the form of an academic paper and bill draft.

“Later, when the working committee is underway, what is worked on by BKD will increasingly approach the academic paper and bill draft, then we will bring it to the internal meeting of Commission II,” said Zulfikar.

“We are still discussing it with the chairmen of political parties,” said Puan at the DPR RI Building on Thursday (16/4/2026).
