PDI-P fires legislators in Lampung

LAMPUNG: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) has dismissed seven legislators in Tanggamus regency, Lampung for supporting the local regent and vice regent candidates who were not nominated by the party's executive board.

The chairman of the Lampung PDI Perjuangan chapter, Sahzan Safri said on Monday that the legislators had violated chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri's letter that ordered all PDI Perjuangan legislators in Tanggamus to vote for the party's regent and vice regent candidates.

PDI Perjuangan nominated the previous Tanggamus regent Achmadsyah from Golkar party and PDI Perjuangan member Tulus Purnomo for the Tanggamus regent and vice regent posts but they failed to win a majority in the election battle.

"Because of the seven dissidents, our candidates failed to win the election," he said, adding that there was an indication that the seven were bribed.

The Fauzan Sya'i-Bambang Kurniawan pairing, who are the United Development Party (PPP) candidates, won the selection. --JP
