PDI-P councillor, wife found dead in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A legislative candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) was found dead with his wife on Monday night at his rented house here.

The dead were 40-year-old Pahala Sianipar and his wife, Imelda Pangaribuan, 31.

Pahala, was certain to have secured a seat in the Serdang Bedagai regency council.

His body was found on the floor at his rented house on Jl. Pintu Air, Medan.

His wife, Imelda Pangaribuan, 31, was found in the bathroom, with head injuries.

The couple were discovered on Monday night by Tumpal Sirait, 19, a relative of Imelda, who was suspicious after the couple's maid told him the pair had not left their room since Sunday afternoon.

A local resident, M. Rusli, said the two had lived in the neighborhood for six months and seemed happy.

Medan Teladan Police chief Adj. Comr. Irwan Anwar said police were looking into the incident. -- JP
