PDI open for Bambang, Bintang

SEMARANG, Central Java: The minority Indonesian Democratic
Party (PDI) hopes that two outspoken legislators dismissed from
the House of Representatives will join the party.

PDI chief Megawati Soekarnoputri said here Saturday that
Bambang Warih Koesoemo, from the ruling Golkar party, and Sri
Bintang Pamungkas, from the United Development Party (PPP), would
be invaluable assets to PDI.

"PDI's doors are wide open for Bambang and Bintang as well as
anyone else wanting to contribute their best to the party," she
said at a get-together with local party activists.

Bambang's dismissal has been approved by President Soeharto
but the PPP has yet to pass on its proposal to sack Bintang to
the House leadership. (har)
